Ocean Day
The university sponsored something called Ocean Day down by the bay a few weeks ago. They had booths that had information, crafts, activities, etc. that all related to marine life in some way. Since Matt has been working with the Marine Science Dept. this semester, he has gotten to know some of their professors really well and has had the opportunity to take Jackson along with him a couple of times when he's gone on activities with them like snorkeling. Lisa, one of the professors in charge of Ocean Day, asked Matt if Jackson would be interested in volunteering to help out at some of the booths. So, Jackson went down early and spent the day helping out wherever he was needed. He mostly worked with the touch tanks where they had some fun little sea creatures like sea cucumbers, star fish, and other ones I had no idea what they were. The other kids loved the touch tanks although Aidan was a little nervous about holding things. It was a great opportunity for Jackson and fun for the rest of us. We also were asked to help out with Origami booth. Friday night, Matt came home with instructions on how to make a whole bunch of origami sea creatures and we spent about an hour making up a bunch of them to have on display. Some were really easy and others were so hard, no matter how long I looked at the instructions I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do. The kids were really proud of their origami animals when we went to the fair the next day. Jackson also spent a lot of the day teaching people how to do the origami.
